Member of the Month - September: Sheena

We’re excited to announce that Sheena is our September Member of the Month! She’s earned this recognition through her hard work, dedication, and constant pursuit of improvement. Always staying back after class to work on her weaknesses, Sheena’s determination has paid off in a big way—recently hitting a 90kg back squat PB! Her enthusiasm is infectious, and the energy she brings to the 6:15 am class is unmatched. When Sheena achieves something great, you’ll definitely hear her excitement. Let’s get to know the powerhouse behind that signature scream!

Q&A with Sheena:

Q: What initially drew you to functional fitness and 312 Fortitude, and what keeps you coming back?
A: “How fit and strong I saw people getting when they started their CrossFit journey, and I wanted to challenge myself a bit more. I signed up straight away because Coach Letitia made me feel welcomed on my first day of trialing… Now y’all won’t be able to get rid of me! Lol. Plus, so many of the experienced members are bloody awesome—they take the time out to teach you what they know!”

Q: Can you share a highlight or memorable achievement from your time at 312 Fortitude?
A: “Learning to love squats, hitting depth, and reaching my PB of 80kgs before December. However, I went on and did 90kgs… super stoked!”

Q: What’s your favorite movement or exercise, and what do you love about it?
A: “Power cleans! I’ve set another goal to hit 85kgs before the end of 2024, so a lot of work to do! I just love how strong it makes me feel when I nail a weight I’ve been aiming for… 85kgs, here I come!”

Q: How do you maintain your motivation and enthusiasm for functional fitness?
A: “As cliché as it sounds, I love the community vibes. The members I train with at 6:15 am are the best crew ever! Plus, I have a lot going on in my head, so being in a positive environment really helps with that. I love seeing my progress, but also the progress of other members.”

Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time outside of the gym?
A: “Anyone that’s friends with me on Insta will know my spare time is spent between hanging out with Esme lol or out socializing with friends.”

Q: Do you have a favorite book, movie, or TV series/show that you would recommend?
A: “Modern Family! Hahaha. I’m a useless reader—I fall asleep after reading a couple of pages. However, I’ve set myself a goal to read at least one book a month starting in November. People should watch Modern Family—it’s the best show after Friends!”

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
A: “Maldives… it looks bougie, hahaha! I think I’m bougie too lol.”

Q: If you could give one piece of advice to someone just starting their functional fitness journey, what would it be?
A: “Get out of your comfort zone and try it. It may take a couple of times to find your community, but I’m just so thankful I was able to find mine. Shout out to my bestie Troy for signing us up—best decision ever made!”
