Meet Sammy, our December Member of the Month! Sammy’s dedication and resilience have been nothing short of inspiring in 2024. Despite being in a moon boot mid-year due to an ankle injury, she never stopped showing up, making adjustments and working hard until she fully recovered—and now, she’s back to lifting stronger than ever! Over the holiday season, Sammy stayed consistent, tackling classes and even completing some long workouts. Known for her incredible strength, beautiful lifts, and ever-present smile, Sammy is an athlete everyone admires. Let’s dive into her Q&A to learn more about her CrossFit journey and what keeps her coming back to 312 Fortitude! 💪✨

Q&A with Sammy:

Q: What initially drew you to functional fitness and 312 Fortitude, and what keeps you coming back?
A:I moved to Onehunga, and 312 Fortitude was recommended as a great gym and community. It’s such a safe and happy place to exercise at your own pace, where everyone’s wins are celebrated. I keep coming back thanks to the awesome community and the friends I’ve made along the way. 😊

Q: Can you share a highlight or memorable achievement from your time at 312 Fortitude?
A: Doing the CrossFit Open again, being part of the competition training, participating in the NZ Nationals pairs qualifiers, and the in-house comp were all really fun and pushed me outside my comfort zone. 😊

Q: What’s your favorite movement or exercise, and what do you love about it?
A: Anything with a barbell makes me happy! My favorite movement has to be the snatch. It took me a while to figure out how to do it, but once I did, it became so much fun to chase those PBs!

Q: How do you maintain your motivation and enthusiasm for functional fitness?
A: Honestly, I just go to see my friends and all the amazing people in class. 😂 They keep me accountable and motivated. Working out with others makes it so much more fun, and I definitely push myself more than I would on my own.

Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time outside of the gym?
A: I love being outdoors and spend a lot of time camping, hiking, and relaxing at the beach. Recently, I’ve also become embarrassingly obsessed with crocheting my own clothes—my granny era has come early!

Q: Do you have a favorite book, movie, or TV series/show that you would recommend?
A: French movies and TV shows are outrageously great!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
A: If I could, I’d travel everywhere! But I have a special love for Europe and would love to explore all the European countries one day. 🗺️

Q: If you could give one piece of advice to someone just starting their functional fitness journey, what would it be?
A: Have fun and keep turning up. 😊
