Our May Member of the Month goes to none other than Poe! đź’Ą
Since joining us at the end of last year, Poe has shown nothing but grit, consistency, and the hunger to improve. Already naturally strong, he’s been laser-focused on learning new skills—from barbell technique to gymnastics—and the progress has been unreal. From crushing bar muscle-ups and toes-to-bar, to qualifying for both the NZ Masters Finals and Masters League Finals, and even winning the Beginner Division at our most recent in-house comp—Poe is well on his way to becoming a full-blown RX athlete. We’re so proud to have him as part of the 312 Fortitude crew!
Q: What initially drew you to functional fitness and 312 Fortitude, and what keeps you coming back?
A: I always wanted to try CrossFit but never found the right time, space, or gym. Honestly, it looked intimidating seeing people flat out after workouts! But 312 Fortitude has the best coaches, the best space, and the best vibes—and the culture? Nothing beats it. I love it here.
Q: Can you share a highlight or memorable achievement from your time at 312 Fortitude?
A: Qualifying for both the NZ Masters and the Masters League finals—such an awesome experience. And of course, the CrossFit Open was a great challenge. Also, being able to do gymnastics movements like TTB, pull-ups, and bar muscle-ups… never in my wildest dreams did I think I could do those!
Q: What’s your favorite movement or exercise, and what do you love about it?
A:Anything with a barbell. Keeps this old body moving. đź’Ş
Q: How do you maintain your motivation and enthusiasm for functional fitness?
A: The culture and vibes—especially the 5:15am crew. We go from 0 to 100 real quick!
Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time outside of the gym?
A: Spending time with my family and hanging with my grandson.
Q: Do you have a favorite book, movie, or TV series/show that you would recommend?
A: Don’t really watch TV these days!
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
A: To the States to watch an NBA game live!
Q: If you could give one piece of advice to someone just starting their functional fitness journey, what would it be?
A: Be patient—it’ll come.
Poe, you’ve shown us all what consistency, patience, and a great attitude can do. From learning new skills to competing and crushing it, you’ve become a force in the gym and an inspiration to the whole crew—especially the 5:15am squad! Thanks for bringing the energy, the drive, and the heart. We’re stoked to watch your journey continue to unfold! 🔥👏
