Member of the Month - September: Dylan

(Yes, we’re a month late—but he’s worth the wait! 😅)

Our September Member of the Month is the quietly competitive and consistently impressive Dylan! 💪

Dylan only joined a few months ago, but in a short time, he’s made a huge impact—both in performance and presence. Starting off as the quiet new guy, he’s now beating almost everyone in a WOD and surprising us all with what he can do. Whether it’s working on his bar muscle-ups, hitting new PBs, or doing extra training outside class, Dylan’s commitment is next level.

He’s also been subtly teaching us a lot—especially in how we communicate. Dylan is deaf, but that hasn’t held him back from thriving in the gym or connecting with everyone. In fact, he’s even been helping some of us learn a bit of sign language along the way—true Fortitude spirit. 🫶

Q&A with Dylan:

Q: What initially drew you to functional fitness and 312 Fortitude, and what keeps you coming back?
A: I started CrossFit for the challenge and to improve my health and wellbeing. Every time I walk into class, I feel excited and motivated—it’s impossible not to feel inspired here.

Q: Can you share a highlight or memorable achievement from your time at 312 Fortitude?
A: Definitely hitting new personal bests on my lifts. But the biggest highlight has been getting my first bar muscle-up!

Q: What’s your favorite movement or exercise, and what do you love about it?
A:The clean and jerk—it’s a full-body movement that challenges strength, speed, and technique all at once.

Q: How do you maintain your motivation and enthusiasm for functional fitness?
A: By setting new goals and staying connected to the 312 Fortitude community. Every class is a new challenge.

Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time outside of the gym?
A: Watching NBA, NFL, and UFC, collecting Pokémon and sports cards 😄 and spending time with my son and partner.

Q: Do you have a favorite book, movie, or TV series/show that you would recommend?
A: I don’t watch much TV or movies!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
A: I’d love to travel to South America again—the food is incredible, and I’d love to explore more of the culture and landscapes.

Q: If you could give one piece of advice to someone just starting their functional fitness journey, what would it be?
A: You’ll love it—just join and see what you’re capable of!

Dylan, you’re a quiet force with a powerful presence in our community. Your hard work, consistency, and willingness to step outside your comfort zone—both in training and in connecting with others—make you an inspiration to all of us. We’re proud to have you as part of the Fortitude whānau. Keep crushing it! 🔥👏

Hey, like this? Why not share it with a buddy?
