Q&A with Coach Ryan
What’s your favourite movement/workout in the gym?
Thrusters, burpees, assault bike, rower, running, wall balls—anything “gassy” that requires a strong mental game to endure.
How long have you been coaching or CrossFitting?
I’ve been coaching since I was 19, so coming up on 15 years.
What’s one piece of advice you give to every new member?
Consistency and to not be ashamed of scaling movements/weights that you are not ready for.
What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
I am super critical of all Indian food that is not my mother’s cooking.
What’s one thing you always tell your athletes?
Understand the “why” behind movements/workouts/progressions. Play the long game, and look after your body as we want to be able to do these things well into our 60s and 70s.
How did you get started in fitness?
Initially, I started with bodybuilding and strongman like most teenagers. Once I became a young father, my “why” also changed, and I transitioned to hybrid training and CrossFit.
What motivates you as a coach?
Watching members make physical and mental progress throughout their journey.
What do you enjoy most about being part of the 312 Fortitude team?
The most enjoyable part about 312 is how everyone has your back. Whether you’re a new member or seasoned veteran, we will be there to help and support you.
